Short Bio

Jeff Sutherland started the first Scrum at Easel Corporation in 1993 and worked with Scrum Co-Creator Ken Schwaber, to formalize the Scrum development process at OOPSLA’95. In the same year, Sutherland provided Kent Beck background information on the creation of Scrum to help him create eXtreme Programming. XP engineering practices then evolved along with SCRUM and the two leading Agile development processes work well together. Scrum and XP are the most widely used Agile processes worldwide and their creators are authors of the Agile Manifesto.

Jeff is CEO of his own company, Scrum, Inc., and Chairman of the Scrum Training Institute working to provide worldwide Scrum training to people and companies moving to Agile practices. He has been CTO/VP of engineering of nine software companies prototyping Scrum in four of them and implementing the full Scrum process in his last five companies. Scrum, Inc. is hosted by OpenView Venture Partners where Jeff is a coach to OpenView portfolio companies. He typically spends one week a month working with OpenView companies, a week training and consulting in the United States, and two weeks a month in Europe. You will find him frequently in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Amsterdam, Paris and other European cities.
