IBM, Haifa Research Lab SINTEFThe Agile Conference series has become the premier place for bringing to the international community the results of scientific rigorous research on agile software development processes and practices. The organizers of the Research Stage invite researchers to contribute to the body of knowledge on the matter of agile methods and processes, agile teams and people, and the tools and practices that support them. We aim at bridging the gap between research and practice in a way that both will continuously feed each other.

We will have 3 tracks at the 2009 conference:
- Research papers session - for research that has led to significant and validated results
- Research-in-progress workshop - to present research starting or currently on-going and where the authors are expecting feedback from the community
- PhD symposium – to give PhD students a supportive environment to present their research work, to receive constructive feedback, and to discuss main issues of their work
The topics of interest for both tracks include, but are not limited to research on:
- Agile methods: techniques and implementations
- Agile methods in various industrial contexts: good and bad practices, patterns
- Agile for large systems or legacy systems
- Agile for non-functional requirements
- The business aspects of agile methods
- Tools for Agile
- Governance of agile software development
- Agile teams and working environments
- Agile assessment
- Agile interaction with other fields, e.g. cognitive science, organizational psychology, interaction design and HCI research, software security
- Agile methods in education and learning
We encourage submissions to offer balanced perspectives and to address both benefits and limitations of the techniques discussed. Constructive critiques of agile practices are also welcome, if properly supported by evidence.
Full Research track:
We are looking for original, finished research. To be accepted, a significant portion of the content must be new. Motivation for research and discussion of the related work must be included. The papers will undergo a scientifically rigorous peer-review, by 3 reviewers selected from the program committee. Successful submissions will be considered for the Best Research Paper award.
The conference proceedings will be published by the IEEE Computer Society. Thus, all papers must follow the IEEE Proceedings Format to be reviewed. Templates and instructions can be downloaded from the IEEE Computer Society web site. Papers are limited to 8 pages.
Research-in-progress workshop:
We are looking for papers that describe research work in progress that has some preliminary results. The research motivation as well as the research method and tools should be included.
Papers for the workshop are limited to 4 pages and will not appear in the proceedings.
PhD Symposium:
We are looking for papers from PhD students only that describe their doctoral research. The paper should include a description of the research subject and goals, the research method and tools, and if exist preliminary results and analysis.
Papers for the symposium are limited to 4 pages and will not appear in the proceedings.
