Distributed Agile

Producer: Tamara Sulaiman (producer) Applied Scrum

For many Agile teams, working in a distributed environment brings its own set of unique challenges, impediments and solutions. In a recent “State of Agile” survey, 57% of the respondents reported that their Agile teams were working in a non co-located context. There are many different degrees of distribution; in small organizations and large, where team members are located within one or two time zones to large groups with full off-shore solutions across many time zones. The Distributed Agile stage is where we will focus on these unique challenges and solutions.

What Are We Looking For?

The Distributed Agile stage is where we will share experience reports, participate in workshops and tutorials, and listen to panel speakers all addressing these unique challenges. We are looking for answers to the questions:

  • What works well with distributed teams?
  • What doesn’t work well?
  • What challenges should team members, managers and executives working within a globally distributed context be aware of, and how can they be met?

Themes within the Distributed Agile stage include:

  • Challenges For Sustaining Long-Running Distributed Agile Projects
  • Scaling Across The Globe
  • Distributed Agile In The Large – Programming And Organizational Challenges
  • Leveraging Tools In The Distributed Agile Environment
  • Coaching And Mentoring The Distributed Team – How Agile Do We Need To Be?
  • Planning and Executing With Distributed Teams
  • Other?

Types of Submissions and Target Audience:

Given the large number of organizations working in and with distributed Agile teams, we are looking for presentations targeted at various levels. Ideally we will have a solid mix of presentation types, experience reports, workshops and tutorials, panels and presentations targeted at a mix of experience levels with distributed Agile teams – newbie, practitioner and expert.
